WaTeR aNd MoOn

Sitting at the waters edge

Seeing it glisten and shine

The moon staring patiently back at me

Through her reflection

The water looks so calm and inviting

But I wonder if I were to dive in

Would I want to come back up?

Just sink and let the gentle flow hug me

I worry I'd enjoy that hug too much

And I have people who care

And people I care for

I couldn't try it again

I wouldn't.

So I sit and let my mind wander

To the past and the present

I'm terrified of the future

I won't let my mind wander there

A day at a time

One foot in front of the other

Sitting to breathe and reorient myself

The water is beautiful tonight

So still it's like I'm looking at the sky

The moon is watching

She doesn't judge

She knows the struggles

And she sends her light to remind me

How far I've come

How lucky I am to have what I have

Just a few more breaths of this quiet moment

Maybe I'll even go home

But that's in the future, no matter how close

And I won't go that far ahead
